Would we do anything differently?
Not for this trip. It was perfect for a one-day visit during a larger Paris vacation. Next time, we’d stay closer and visit both parks.

Why We Loved Disneyland Paris

We are Disney people. We’ve spent a lot of time in the Florida parks, and I will tell you without hesitation Disneyland Paris instantly became our favorite park.

Why?

It’s easier to navigate.
It’s less expensive.
And the rides are just a little bit… spicier.

Also, there’s a champagne cart…need I say more?

Getting There from Paris

We were staying in the 10th arrondissement and Ubered to Châtelet–Les Halles, then took the RER A train directly to Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy station (look for the Mickey ears on the signs).

The ride took about 45 minutes, and the walk from the station to the park entrance was only a few minutes.

Disneyland Paris has two parks:

  • Disneyland Park (castle park — most like Magic Kingdom)

  • Walt Disney Studios Park

We chose to focus on Disneyland Park so we could enjoy the day without rushing. No regrets. But we would absolutely go back to experience both.

Rope Drop Strategy (Without Early Entry)

We didn’t stay on property, so we didn’t have early entry. But rope dropping the regular opening still worked beautifully.

We took the 8:18 AM train
Arrived: 9:00 AM
Entered park: 9:30 AM

One of my favorite things? Even during peak August travel, rope drop didn’t require waking up at 5 AM.

First Stop: Big Thunder Mountain

We were in line by 9:38 AM with a posted 25-minute wait. Actual wait: 27 minutes.

And this version of Big Thunder Mountain is outstanding.

It’s on an island. You ride under water in the dark to reach it, which makes it feel faster and more dramatic. The theming is incredible, and it genuinely feels more exciting than the Florida version — which was previously our family favorite.

If your family is comfortable with Big Thunder, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, or Slinky Dog, you’ll be fine here. Just expect a little extra drama (in the best way).

Phantom Manor and Pirates of the Caribbean

Next was Phantom Manor, which was basically a walk-on.

We all loved it even more than Haunted Mansion. The kids said that they could follow the storyline better and Jeff and I agreed.

Then Pirates of the Caribbean, posted at 25 minutes, actual wait closer to 20.

This version includes:

  • An extra drop

  • Closer animatronics

  • Incredible atmosphere

  • A restaurant overlooking part of the ride

Yes, once again… a little spicier.

Lunch and Champagne While Watching the Parade

By 11:00 AM, we headed to Marketplace Deli on Main Street.

It was empty. No wait.

Cost: 48 euros for three sandwiches and two sodas.
Jeff and I split one sandwich because they were huge.

We grabbed a table along Main Street just in time for the 11:30 parade.

Jeff went to the champagne cart and returned with two glasses (20 euros each, souvenir glasses included), and we watched the parade while eating lunch. (To find the champagne cart, head down Main Street towards the castle and it will be at the end of Main Street on your right). Our kids still enjoy using those souvenir champagne glasses at home!

Was it the absolute best parade view? No, we actually had great views of the floats but the people on the ground we couldn’t see…an you know what? We were fine with that.

Was it the most enjoyable, relaxed, and efficient use of time? Absolutely. And my favorite parade experience ever.

And when the parade ended, the lunch line was enormous. Early lunch for the win in Disneyland Paris and we have heard this tip from others also.

Disneyland Paris Parade

Best parad I have ever seen, may have something to do with the viewing spot and champagne!

Afternoon Rides and Snacks

Next up:

Star Tours — 15-minute wait
Hyperspace Mountain — Jeff used the single rider line
Shopping break, the girls and I started looking for ears while Jeff was riding Hyperspace Mountain.
Snack break in Fantasyland

Fantasyland has a cluster of food kiosks that reminded me of EPCOT and it made it a great snack stop because everyone could get exactly what they wanted:

Ice cream
Nutella waffle
Cider (alcoholic)

While sitting there snacking, we booked a Premier Access One pass for Big Thunder Mountain for later in the afternoon.

Fantasyland Food Kiosks

These reminded me of Epcot food stands, it’s a crowd pleasing stop to grab a snack, lots of choices.

Exploring the Castle and the Dragon

Sleeping Beauty’s castle is fully explorable, inside, upstairs, and out onto balconies.

But the best part is underneath where the dragon lies. This was really cool and almost real. It is dark and roars loudly and smoke comes out of its nostrils. Unless you are concerned it will terrify your child, it is as must do at this park.

Disneyland Paris Dragon

The dragon under the castle is a must do!

Goofy’s Fountain Show

Right outside the castle, we stumbled onto Goofy conducting a fountain orchestra.

The fountains shoot incredibly high, and if you stand close enough, you get wet.

Our kids were delighted.

We watched it twice, once then and once later when it was starting up as we were crossing the park to ride Star Tours one last time. My kids would tell you it is a must see from the steps leading up to the castle.

Fantasyland, Big Thunder Round Two, and Late Afternoon Fun

We rode:

Snow White (Blanche-Neige et les Sept Nains), this is slow dark ride that was a little darker and creepier than expected…like all things Disneyland Paris, a little spicier!
Alice’s Curious Labyrinth - kids loved it, this was my worst nightmare, following my kids in a maze trying not to lose sight of them among throngs of people, and my kids are not even that young! I would avoid this if you have a young runner.

Next we Explored Skull Rock

Then used our Premier Access One pass to ride Big Thunder Mountain again, bypassing a 50-minute wait.

Worth it.

We grabbed popcorn (good, but Disney World Florida still wins popcorn), watched the Goofy fountain show again, and rode Star Tours one last time.

At this point, everyone was happily exhausted.

Souvenirs and Heading Back to Paris

On our way out:

Souvenir shopping at the Emporium (great ear selection)
Ice cream (Ben & Jerry’s in a cup with a stick)
One last castle photo

We caught the 5:35 PM train back to Paris.

Final Thoughts: Is One Day at Disneyland Paris Worth It?

Absolutely.

We rode everything we prioritized.
We never felt rushed.
We didn’t need full Premier Access.
And we were back in Paris for dinner.

Would we go back? In a heartbeat.

Next time, we’d stay closer, maybe even on property, and visit both parks.

But if you only have one day during a Paris trip, Disneyland Paris is completely doable, and completely magical!

And yes… the champagne cart really does make everything better.
